What the Home Team agencies say about selection
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) says that shortlisted applicants for uniformed careers in the Singapore Police Force (SPF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Singapore Prison Service (SPS) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) "might be required to take psychometric and/or written tests", alongside interviews and medical examinations. SPF's Direct-Entry Sergeant recruitment brochure lists a psychometric assessment and a panel interview among its selection stages. For MHA scholarships, MHA says the psychometric test assesses "general, verbal and numerical reasoning abilities" and gives a rounded view of your psychological profile.
What the agencies do not publish is the content of their tests: the number of questions, the time limit, the question types or the pass mark. Anyone who claims to sell "the real SPF test" or "past-year Home Team papers" is not being straight with you. TestReady SG is an independent practice platform and has no link to MHA or any Home Team department.
What this practice pack covers
Because the real content is not published, this pack gives you broad aptitude-style practice in the skills that reasoning tests commonly measure, plus a set of factual questions about the Home Team that are useful for interviews. Everything is written in plain text, so it works on any phone.
| Section | Questions | What you practise |
|---|---|---|
| Numerical Reasoning | 42 | Percentages, ratios, speed and time, shift times, averages, simple data |
| Verbal Reasoning | 37 | Word meanings, analogies, grammar, spelling and short notices to interpret |
| Logical Reasoning | 34 | Number and letter series, codes, ordering, directions and if-then logic |
| Attention to Detail | 23 | Comparing codes, names and addresses, counting, sorting and reading rosters |
| Situational Judgement | 16 | Choosing the most sensible response in everyday work scenarios |
| Home Team Knowledge | 22 | Agency roles, emergency numbers and key dates, checked against official sites |
The timed mock exam is our own practice format: 50 questions in 50 minutes, mixed across all six sections. It is designed to build working speed, not to copy the length of any agency's test.
About personality questionnaires
A psychological profile is usually built from a personality questionnaire, where you rate statements about how you tend to think and behave. These have no right or wrong answers, so we do not score practice personality items. Our honest advice:
- Answer as you really are at work, not as you imagine an ideal officer would. Questionnaires often ask about the same trait in several ways, and inconsistent answers tend to stand out.
- Avoid always picking the most extreme option. Real people agree strongly with some things and are more balanced about others.
- Do not rush, but do not overthink each statement either. Your first honest reaction is usually the most accurate.
- Expect your answers to come up at interview. Be ready to give real examples of how you handle pressure, teamwork and rules.
How to prepare
MHA tells scholarship applicants that there is no need to revise for its psychometric test and to arrive well rested with a clear mind. That is good advice: you cannot memorise a reasoning test. What practice can do is make the question styles familiar, so you spend your time thinking rather than working out what is being asked, and help you find a steady pace under a timer.
- Start untimed. Work through each section with the explanations open and learn the methods, such as converting minutes to decimals of an hour or spotting alternating series.
- Then add time pressure. Sit the timed mock exam and note which sections slow you down.
- Brush up on mental arithmetic. Percentages, fractions and 24-hour times come up constantly in shift work as well as in tests.
- Know the Home Team. Interview panels expect you to understand what the agency you are applying to actually does. Read its official website as well as our fact questions.
- Look after the basics. Sleep well the night before, bring what your invitation asks for and read every instruction on screen carefully.
Selection also involves medical examinations, and some roles have fitness and eyesight requirements. Check the current entry requirements on the official careers page of the agency you are applying to.
